TASTING NOTES

Vineyard: Single vineyard in Frankland River, Great Southern. Soils comprise of iron-stone base gravels and duplex sandy loams.

Vintage: In Frankland River, a cooler season prompted a delayed start to the harvest. The dry and slightly warmer weather during March hastened the harvest, ensuring a swift collection of grapes that ranged from good to exceptional in quality, accompanied by solid yields. 2021 will be remembered as an excellent vintage.

Appearance: Deep inky red with youthful purple hues.

Aroma: Black fruits, spice and cigar with leafy hints of mint.

Palate: Dense, dark fruits with a complex mid-palate of chocolate and velvety tannins leading to a long toasty finish with hints of vibrant red fruits supported by spicy French oak.

Varietals: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon

Winemaker Notes: Fruit is harvested, de-stemmed and crushed, then cold soaked for five days to encourage gentle extraction of colour, perfume and flavour. The wine is left on its skins for three weeks post-fermentation to extract further colour and tannins, before being transferred to oak barriques to complete malolactic fermentation.

Maturation: 24 months in French Oak barriques, 50% being new oak.

Cellaring: to 2040

Alcohol: 14.5% Vol

pH: 3.62

Acidity: 5.9 g/L

Residual Sugar: 0.5 g/L

REVIEWS & RATINGS

95 points: Aaron Brasher, The Real Review

Deep, dark, inky and opaque in the glass. Broodingly evocative aromas of mulberry, blackberry, graphite, bramble, dried herbs and cedar. The palate is plush, mouth-filling, opulent and multi-faceted. There’s absolute purity and poise here. Plenty of black fruits, spice, creamy oak and briary exotica. Tannins are shapely and firm and the acidity has zip and ping. A decadent and very satisfying red.

Lush and ultimately very lovely, seductive cabernet of density, a sense of freshness despite the concentration and ripeness, a slick of molten chocolate tannins with the faintest hazy grip, bay leaf herbal and creamy nougat oak notes. It’s quite a bold red but finds a very even keel and great balance in all its more outgoing elements. In this, great drinking ensues, yet fruit quality and finesse of winemaking are evident. Kudos.
