You might know The Lake House Denmark for its gourmet vineyard platters or its award-winning drops, but there’s a lot more to our food and wine offering than you probably thought.
Did you know you can taste The Lake House Denmark’s food philosophy in each and every one of our wines, grazing platters, picnics and Vinofood speciality foods? It’s the taste of grapes nurtured from seed to berry, of fruit and veggies lovingly grown onsite, and of farm-fresh produce, personally selected by our kitchen team.
Our food philosophy
Here at The Lake House, our aim is to share homegrown and locally sourced produce (what we consider the truest representation of our region) with our customers and guests, through taste journeys that can be experienced either by the lake or at home, with friends or on your own. It’s a philosophy that we’ve had since we first opened The Lake House, and its one we’ll continue to bottle and plate for quite some time.
Flavours from the vine
As, first and foremost, a cool-climate winery, everything we do revolves around the grape and vine. And it’s from here where each of our food and wine journeys begin. It’s here where the star ingredient of our award-winning wines and Vinofood speciality foods is grown. It’s here where the fruit is picked, pressed and blended into one of our condiments, as wine or grape seed oil. And it’s here, surrounded by nature, where you can taste these flavours from the vine.
Paddock-to-plate
Our paddock-to-plate mentality goes hand-in-hand with our soil-to-bottle philosophy. Along with our grapes, we also grow our own fruits, vegetables and herbs in our organic veggie garden. If we don’t grow it, we do our best to source, fresh from farm gates or local producers in the region. For us, and our guests, fresh is best, and that’s what we try to showcase through our gourmet vineyard platters and the other foodie offerings we present.
Slowing down to savour a taste of the good life
When it comes to growing your own food, you can’t rush the process. It takes plenty of time and patience to produce the things we consume, and it’s this understanding we hope to share with you. When you know the journey that your food has been on, even before it’s reached your plate, you learn to appreciate and savour each bite. The flavours you taste become more than just “citrusy”, “umami” or “sweet”, but encapsulate stories of slow living, nurturing nature and living off the land. It’s in the smallest of moments – between sips or bites – that you’ll find nourishment and connection to your food, your friends, nature and slowing down. Here at The Lake House, we encourage you to slow down and to get a taste of the good life, one mouthful at a time.
