Being kind to others is easy, plus it has a
two-fold effect on the mind and soul.
How good does it feel when your boss tells you “you’re doing a great job”, a friend compliments you out of the blue, or you get a free coffee from a stranger? We bet these simple acts of kindness put a smile on your dial. Now imagine how you could do the same for someone else. It’s not hard. In fact, here’s 10 easy ways to be kind to others.
- Listen.
Listening to others is one form of kindness that anyone can appreciate. When you actively take time to listen to someone, you’re showing them that you care and respect what they have to say. And sometimes, that’s all they need to hear.
- Buy a cup of coffee for a stranger behind you in line.
It’s a simple concept: while you’re buying your coffee, pay for another and pass it on to the person behind you. Not only will you surprise them, but they’ll probably do the same for the next person, meaning you’ll be making more than one person’s day.
- Gift.
We love gifting! There’s something about the look on a person’s face when you give them a present completely out of the blue. If you know someone who has been working really hard, has done something nice for you, a stranger or the community, or just looks like they deserve a gift, why not give them a present? A bottle of Lake House Denmark wine should do the trick.
- Treat someone to lunch by the lake.
If you know someone who needs a little break, treat them to lunch by the lake. Spending a day out surrounded by nature, good food and great company is all they’ll need to get an energy boost. (Plus it gives you an excuse to come and enjoy our delicious tasting platters.)
- Compliment someone.
Compliments – by far the simplest, yet most-effective, way to be kind. It doesn’t take much effort by you at all. Noticed someone doing good things at work? Let them know. Did your partner get a haircut? Tell them how nice they look. Like that person’s outfit? Compliment them. See, easy!
- Bring snacks to work and share them with your co-workers.
The workplace is the perfect environment for sharing a bit of love. Create a sense of community within the office, by sharing your favourite snacks with your colleagues. Vinofood’s Rocky Road’s our pick! If you’re particularly persuasive, organise a weekly morning tea with the rest of the team.
- Donate things you don’t need to charity.
We’ve all got at least one dusty box full of clothes and knickknacks we no longer need. And we guarantee there’s someone out there who could probably use that size six jumpsuit you’ll never fit back into. It’s time to let go. Let go of the old things you no longer use, and give them to someone who will.
- Run a bath for your partner/housemate.
Nothing soothes the body and mind like a bubble bath. Surprise your partner, family member or housemate with a luxurious spa day at home. Add our pure and natural Winespa products for the perfect pamper package.
- Volunteer.
If you’re looking to do something a bit more meaningful, try volunteering. There are plenty of organisations seeking volunteers. Pick one that’s close to you or where you want to make a difference, and see how you can help.
- Send an uplifting message to someone you haven’t seen in a while.
There are so many things going on in our lives that we often forget about our friends. If you haven’t spoken to a loved one in a while, send them a message and let them know you still care. And while you’re there, let them know how amazing they are.
